A curated directory, not a scraper dump
Agoradar is the MENA technology event network: a curated, community-maintained directory of important technology events across the Middle East and North Africa, continuously verified and updated through automation.
The name
Agoradar = agora + radar — overlapping on a shared letter. The agora was the open square a Greek city gathered in to trade, argue and hear what was happening next. The radar is the weekly pipeline that sweeps official sources for what is coming. The name is the architecture: a public gathering place, kept current by a scan.
How an event gets here
Two paths lead into the directory, and both end at the same place: a pull request a human merges.
- Automated discovery. A scheduled job runs weekly against a small list of official sources — organizer sites, vendor event pages, CNCF. It normalizes what it finds, de-duplicates it against the existing dataset and writes candidates to
data/candidates.json.It never edits published events. - Community submission. Anyone cansubmit an event. The form opens a GitHub issue; it does not publish anything.
A maintainer verifies the official source, fills in the canonical record and opens a pull request. CI validates the schema, checks for duplicates and builds the site. On merge, the site deploys.
What we will not do
- Publish an event we cannot trace to an official source.
- Invent a date, a venue, a speaker, a price or a URL.
- Let automation push to
main. - Replace a healthy dataset because a discovery source went down.
When we only know the month, the event says exact date TBA. When the start time is not published, it saysTime TBA, and the calendar file becomes an all-day entry rather than a guess.
Platform relevance
Every event carries a 1–5 platform relevance score across cloud, DevOps, Kubernetes, AI, security and open source. It is an editorial signal for a cloud / platform / SRE audience, produced by a deterministic keyword model that a reviewer can argue with in a diff. It is not an industry ranking, and it says nothing about how large or well-run an event is.
Language
The interface is available in English and Arabic. Event descriptions are translated where a maintainer has reviewed the translation; where none exists yet, the English text is shown rather than a machine translation, for the same reason nothing else here is guessed.
Corrections
Dates move, events get cancelled, organizers change venues. If something here is wrong, open an issue on the repository— every event page links to the source it was verified against and the date it was last checked.
